Vegetables As Creative As Me!

3 Aug

One of the best parts about having your own garden is the way the vegetables turn out! I got a curly bean yesterday, and a carrot with legs! We ate them, of course, horrific as it seems. I had to fight my husband for the curly bean off his plate…

it was good.

Off to a wedding this weekend. Back to Bremerton and yet another horrifying ferry experience (not a big fan of cars over water). My best friend is pregnant, so I get to go visit her, too. The best part about that is that it keeps me away from the wine.

I should have more pregnant friends.

And the best news yet is that Knight Angels: Book of Revenge is just about done, and heads off to the editor today! I’m happy to be done with it, for the next month at least (gives me time to do my taxes I had to get an extension on. Writer’s taxes are complicated).

My Thoughts on ‘Fallen’ by Lauren Kate… and What I’m Reading Now: ‘Beautiful Creatures’

8 Feb

What a wonderful Monday!

-The Saint’s won…

-The Book Contest with Penguin (which I entered KA in) has begun…

-It’s not raining…

-And I slept in!

And best of all – a new book!!

Let’s Start With the Book I Just Finished… shall we?

Fallen, what an engaging book! I had a few friends on my other blog warning me that it takes a while to get to the romantic part of this book, BUT, in no way does that ruin the story – not in my opinion. There is so much going on, so much mystery, that you almost want to wait.

Bravo…

SPOILER ALERT:

The ending in my opinion was perfect. I’m so glad he left, because it will keep the reader desire to see Daniel and Luce together, strong. It’s what we’re all going to be waiting for. Not to mention just who or what she is…

What’s Next?

In leau of the cover, I chose to use lavender for my titles today. I’m excited for this book! A little bit longer than most the books I’ve been reading lately, this book will hopefully keep me reading for at least the next week – crossing my fingers.

A southern Gothic, another point I’m excited to read it. Yeah sure, my whole life has been spent on the west coast, but my husband spent part of his life in Georgia.

Supernatural teens. Perfect research for my ever-changing Knight Angels Series…

Holiday Cheer As Promised, My New Editions are Now Available!

4 Dec

They’re Here!

Hey everyone. So despite the frost that is lurking in my yard, threatening to freeze me and my failed car battery to death, there is still an upside! Between jump starting my car (nearly impossible to find a ground point in that thing) and making wedding shower invites for a friend of my mother’s, I have succeeded in getting my new editions of Guardian and Feather online and ready before Christmas!

I am also happy to say that my editor (between delicious glasses of wine that give her her amazing editing powers) is also feverishly working away on Raven! I know she is excited by the fact that my writing skills, grammatically, have vastly improved, because it makes her job easier! AND it makes it so that we can get the story to you sooner. EDITED.

I know that’s been my biggest battle through all this, but it’s nice to learn a little in life, and I have. If it wasn’t for my editor Christina Corlett (Spanish Teacher from New Jersey and author herself) I don’t know what I would do. The best part is that she returns my manuscripts to me in a fashion you would expect from a teacher. I consider her the English-class-I-never-took.

Let’s review some of my reviews!

Sara O’Neil “Anam Cara” from LaGrange, Indiana wrote:

This book is very well written….. I am a media specialist…I buy young adult genre all the time, it’s my job,and this book is a keeper. The story and the characters have depth, and both have been well thought out. So many young adult novels today are very superficial… This novel makes you think about more than clothes, popularity, and boyfriends.
It’s magical….you fall in love with Edgar. Abra makes you feel his pain and darkness. The emptiness that Estella feels is almost palpable. The idea behind this book is brilliant…I love the complexity of the world she has created!
Books of this type help students learn to write better….this type of material takes them outside the box, lets their imagination flow! Kids aren’t using their imaginations these days….I see it all the time in our elementary school, and it’s sad. So many of the children that I read to want books that are “real”. I think because they have such a hard time with the concept of imagining they want material that doesn’t make them think.
This is a wonderful book…..and I love the idea of having the unedited version….the true authors voice, what a teaching tool for students. They learn that you don’t have to be perfect the first time you put words to paper, what really matters is that you write, and write, and write…..

Now, this is a reader that gets it! This was my point, my entire purpose for this whole series! In third grade my teacher nurtured me to be creative, and so did my parents. They always said, “Never let go of your creativity, because it is the thing that sets you apart…” This is very true. My whole goal is to help people understand that creativity is not something to be afraid of. There is no such thing as a bad story, or a sloppy painting!

The world has become so desensitized, that we are afraid to set ourselves apart from all the rest. Don’t be afraid! I get some rather mean comments about my writing at times, but it doesn’t discourage me because in my heart I know that I am doing what I love, and what I love is to write stories! It’s whatever I want it to be, and that’s what makes it all so fun! If I want someone to fly, they will! There is no right or wrong…

Thank you Sara, I loved it 🙂
